Uganda Immersion: Youth, Development & Health
August 4th-20th, 2007
Uganda lies today at a crossroads. It is emerging from a 20-year civil war, embarking on major economic development initiatives, and combating domestic health crises. This program will focus on how local, national, and international actors have worked to combat dramatic health challenges plaguing the country through creative, pragmatic solutions. Participants will see first-hand that youth are and will continue to be the driving forces behind development and social change in this fragile environment. The goal of the Immersion is to provide a platform for Americans and Ugandans to explore the important role that youth have to play in Uganda by sharing experiences, ideas, approaches, and strategies.
Participants will meet with political, academic, and cultural experts in fields such as public health, economic development, and education and will explore the many issues surrounding Uganda’s development by engaging with local communities in dialogue, cultural exchange, and direct service. They will also have the opportunity to travel throughout the country to obtain a unique and in-depth picture of contemporary Uganda.
